Description |
History of the Vollmer-Sinclair House and its occupants, accompanied by magazine and newspaper articles and building permits. Louis Vollmer built this home 1923 with architect Frederick H. Wallis, in a Spanish Colonial Revival style. H. Weller was the contractor; the house cost $12,000. Louis Vollmer and his wife Mathilda Siegmann had two children, Alvin Vollmer and Viola Adeline Vollmer. Alvin Vollmer became manager of the Leven Oaks Hotel, which his father had built. Viola later married Wilbur D. Garber. Mary Craig Sinclair and novelist Upton Sinclair purchased the home. After Mary Craig Sinclair died Sinclair married May Hard. The next residents of the house were Glen W. and Patricia Edwards. Newspaper reports are included from the Foothill Inter-City Newspapers, Sunday July 7, the Pasadena Star News of July 16, 19, 1991. Historic Landmark #14. Restoration of the house won an award from the California Preservation Foundation. |
