Recollections of Betty Sandford on the work and life of her family. She was born in Monrovia and lived nearly all of her 90 year life here. Her parents Marion and Jack Zelkowitz owned Jack's Quality Shoes at Lemon and Myrtle. Jack later became a realtor. Betty and her husband Jules Rosenthal Sandford were in a small circle of influential Monrovians who helped spark the City Council Change that brought Bob Bartlett, Eric Faith and Pat Ostrye to office. Betty led the Centennial Committe and a wide range of other work, including foreign policy work with UNICEF. Jules was a partner the law firm Patten, Faith and Sandford. They helped start or build many of the community organizations that still exist today. The memoir includes hilarious stories about raising their children - Randy, Leslie and Kevin. |
