Bartle was the son of John and Amelia Bartle, born in 1899 and died at the age of 46, leaving a wife Doris and son Gerald Fremont Bartle, Jr. He graduated from Monrovia High School, served in the Army, attended Stanford, and worked at Security-First National Bank and Loackheed Aircraft.
