Fire Department Celebrates 70th Year - 1980
History of the First Department which began in 1910. Before that it was all-volunteer with a horse-drawn chemical cart donated in 1908 by John Baxter of Fashion Livery Stables at Lemon and Myrtle. But it did not stop a fire later that year that destroyed Baxter's barn. He lobbied for a paid, full-time department. The article lists fire stations and chiefs that followed.
