The home was at 332 N. Magnolia when the picture was taken. It was built for George W. Dumbell (bookkeeper to William Monroe). The LaForce family came to live in the home in 1889. On the porch from left to right: Frances LaForce Baker and child, Jesse La Force, James W. La Force, two children (siblings of Steve Baker's grandfather), Mary Black La Force.

No signature. Note there is no address. "Hello Gruh, I am going out dove shooting tonight. We get the limit here with ease. I sent the old pump gun and 4 boxes of 7 1/2 out to a rube yesterday. I got a raise in the hardware store already and was told I could stay as long as I like." Postmarked Merced, CA. Comically addressed to "Mr. Geo. Baker, Asst. P.M. (assists the P.M. by sweeping the place), Monrovia, Cal." He was the Assistant Postmaster.
