Monrovia Hotel - Monrovia House - Mills Hotel - 1886
Monrovia Hotel 1886. Also known as 'Monrovia residence' and the 'Mills Hotel', it was built by John C. Anderson. It was bought by C.C. Hotchkiss in December 1886, who had also married W.N. Monroe's sister. Monrovia Planet December 18, 1886. Vol.1 No. 5. Mr. Hotchkiss expanded it and sold it to Mr. Baker of Pasadena for $11,500 in March 1887.

Mrs. Hotchkiss was formerly Eliza Lea Monroe, sister, of W.N. Monroe, founder of Monrovia. They came to Monrovia in 1886. He at one time owned the Monrovia Hotel, Monrovia's first building.

The hotel (also known as the Monrovia Hotel, the Mills Hotel and the Wisaria Hotel) was the first building to be erected in the new town. It was built by John C. Anderson. The addition on the left part of the picture doubled the size of the hotel. It was added in January 1887 (mentioned in Monrovia Planet Jan. 22, 1887).
