126 N. Myrtle. "In 1894 he purchased the furniture business of E.P. Large, which he has carried on successfully since. Recently he purchased the undertaking business of the Lippencott Company, whose agent he was at this point for the past three years." From Monrovia Messenger 1897 Souvenir Edition. Mrs. J.J. Renaker lived in this home and is listed in the city directories in 1908-09, 1911. She was an officer in the new Visiting Nurses' Assoc. The home was built for Mrs. P.M. Pomerene. J.J. Renaker was a cousin of Dr. Charles H. Stewart. Renaker became postmaster in 1888. He operated the J.J. Renaker Furniture Company and an undertaking company on the northeast corner of Lime and Myrtle Avenues. (John L. Wiley's History of Monrovia 1927) |
