From jockey Jimmie Wilson's photo album. Wilson is driving the tractor at Monrovia Day Parade. Anna H. Jones (1855-1932) was an early African American suffragist, educator and activist who moved to Monrovia c. 1920 and lived with her sisters, brother and his family at 1301 S. Shamrock. She formed the Anna H. Jones Club to give scholarships that make higher education possible for young African Americans. Anna H. Jones Club was chartered with the National Council of Colored Women's Clubs Inc. since 1932. |
