Admiral Raymond Spruance, left, commander of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in WWII, poses for a photo with Specialist First Class Dick Klenhard of Monrovia for the Navy's Public Information Office. Spruance's wife and daughter lived in Monrovia during the war years and the admiral visited the city several times, accepting honorary memberships in both the Monrovia Rotary and Kiwanis CLubs. |
